May 2013 Summary

In May the vegetable garden didn't get allot of attention - only 6 hours in total. Our time had been taken with a trip to Tasmania and working on the front yard, the soon to be fruit orchid. Although enough time to keep the garden running was maintained, which kept the chickens moving from bed to bed, seedlings moving from table to bed, and vegetable moving from bed to table.

Our vegetable self-sufficiency score did go up by 4% from last month to an ok score of 33%. A big surprise this month was that we still managed to grow 54% of our own tomatoes. The last tomato plant to be planted had slowed down, but was still producing. It was planted in December and was a Mama's Delight variety. Sadly yesterday the cycle dictated it was time for the chickens to have it.
